Many chargebacks are not stolen cards at all — they are customers who did not recognize a charge, did not get what they expected, or could not reach the business.
1. Use a descriptor customers recognize
The name on the card statement should match the name on your sign or website. Add a phone number if your processor allows it.
2. Make refunds easy to ask for
A clear refund policy and a fast reply stop many disputes. Customers go to their bank when they cannot reach you.
3. Send receipts and confirmations
Email a receipt for every sale and a confirmation for every shipment, booking or renewal.
4. Remind before you renew
For subscriptions, send a reminder before each renewal and make cancelling simple.
5. Keep proof of delivery
Tracking numbers, signed delivery, service logs and customer messages are your evidence if you ever need to fight a dispute.
And for the disputes that still happen
Dispute alerts notify you when a cardholder starts a dispute, so you can refund before it becomes a chargeback.
